Just to note for anyone interested:

Yes, Marcia ([livejournal.com profile] mkillingworth) works for NTL: at their Cambridge call centre, which is one of those scheduled for closure.

This won't happen overnight; indeed, she says that it will close 3 months after the new billing system is installed and running successfully. Thus, we're OK till September or October. At that point, there are supposed to be bonuses for staying that long, plus the possibility of redundancy money or a transfer to Luton.

Luton would be a 60-mile trip each way, which is a sensible commute only by comparison with my own 80-mile each way journey to Hendon. But it would be paid employment...

And speaking of stupid options, there's always the new call centre at Hendon...
