So, as you might expect, we've been having a relaxing time. On Friday we slept in a bit and were late picking up the rental car. As a result, they were out of the ones we'd reserved, and had to make do with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I could get used to this sort of driving, though it wouldn't really suit the Cambridgeshire lanes, and the fuel consumption wouldn't suit my wallet either.
On Saturday we went out for a long walk round the West Edmonton Mall - just up the main aisle and back again. The dragon, alas, was under repair.
Two trips on Sunday - the first to a Walmart to pick up a few essentials that needed replacing. The second trip was to the Edmonton Eskimos, who were playing the Ottawa Renegades. This makes a third variety of American Football that I've seen in person (World League/NFL Europe, Div 1-AA college football and now the CFL), and this is perhaps the strangest, what with a 55-yard line, lots of people in motion at the snap, 12 players/side, and 1 point for a missed field goal.
Both the players I'd seen before were playing for Ottawa: Kerry Joseph, formerly of the 1997 London Monarchs, was at QB, and Yo Murphy, formerly of the Scottish Claymores, was at WR. Kerry has not lost his ability to throw crucial INTs; he threw 4 in this game, as Ottawa went from 15-19 down at the half to a 16-57 loss.
Today: more shopping and relaxing, and tomorrow we have a 7.15am flight to Boston via Houston.
See people soon!
