Vacuumed behind the fridge, and removed all the cat toys that had fallen down behind it. Put it back into place, and switched it on.
Result: the compressor fired up, presumably in an attempt to cool things down again.
As of the time of writing, it appears to have succeeded - the red overtemperature light has gone out and all appears normal.
I think we'll wait a day or so before loading all the food back into it, Just In Case.
