Yesterday being Jan 2nd and therefore my father's birthday, he came over for the afternoon. Lunch was taken at the Cutter Inn - reasonable, but not quite as good as it seems to think it is. Beer: choice of GK IPA or Wherry - I had the Wherry. Again, pretty good...

And so to see the swans at Welney. The Bewicks were still in the fields, so there were only Whoopers and Mute by the hide. Plus the usual rafts of pochard and mallard, with some wigeon and at least one teal and one tufted duck. Plus coot. And the odd cormorant flying across...

As to the morning: three Great British Workmen visited. The plumber diagnosed a blocked soil pipe, and recommended Dyno-Rod, who were duly summoned. The appliance man saw that the washine machine was working perfectly, and gave Marcia a number of tips to try if the problem recurred.

Dyno-Rod turned up third; he laughed at the plumber's diagnosis and tackled the problem with an extra-large plunger. This sorted it...

The washing machine problem promptly recurred; I am now watching a number of items on eBay...
