I have a cheap base unit (actually a complete Dell with a printer for $125 off Craigslist) now up and running, and I have put a US plug on a UK extension lead, so I can plug in UK-sourced stuff that will eat 110v OK. Such as my backup USB HDD, so now I have all my data on the replacement machine. Still haven't reinstalled the programs yet: festina lente.
