was the day we took Jamin over to the specialist vets at Six Mile Bottom. The vet there seemed nice and concerned for him, and talked through the tests he intended to do (and the expected costs: £600-700+VAT ouch).

When we went back to collect him, he'd got all the information he needed from the ultrasound, so no X-rays, and a bill of only £330ish. Summary: he has a leaky mitral valve in his heart, which has led to the main muscles over-developing, which led to inefficiencies, which leads to...

So he's on beta blockers - a quarter of a small tablet a day. Now we have to find a way to get him to take them - all the cats turned up their noses at anchovy paste (even without pills in it) and he could pick the bits out of cod liver oil (not a surprise)!

Expectations: he should last a few more years yet (two-to-five) but probably not much more. Which, given his history of lying in the road and forcing the traffic to drive round him, is better than we might have expected.
