The application for planning permission to build next to us has been turned down.
Marcia was supposed to be working in Ipswich today, which would have been an hour's drive. But snow was coming down heavily and sticking to the frozen road surface, so she opted to take the day off. With agreement from the boss in Ipswich - apparently, if we're snowed in, then they don't expect heroic efforts. Particularly when the police advice is not to travel unless really necessary.
It looks as if we'll be going over to Droitwich on Wednesday. Not that South Birmingham holds some mystic atraction for us, but it's a longish tale...
Interthingy will be renting all the mobility scooters we can find in Glasgow, and probably more. So we looked into a local disability store to see if it made sense to rent locally in Ely and ship to Glasgow. Answer: yes; rental would be £100 for 2 weeks and a £250 deposit. But they also had second-hand scooters for sale that were rather nicer, at £550 and £750 plus VAT in each case.
Now, where could we maybe buy cheaper than that? One answer might have been to look at a similar store in North London near my workplace, but what I did was to look on ebay. So we bid on a scooter, and lost. And bid on a better one, and won... So now all we have to do is collect it.
So you can now expect Marcia to run over people's toes at any convention we go to in the UK, and we'll be looking at whether it will make sense to ship it to the USA in future.
Of course, there's this other auction coming up for a similar scooter just up the way from us, so we could yet have a matched pair...
