Indeed, the only downside was that I don't have my bacon yet, and that was because the AA and the Post Office were both too efficient.
To start with, I rang the AA a bit after 7am, emphasising the non-urgent nature of the problem. So they got someone to me about 7.40 or so, who decided that he didn't have the right belt and decided to tow me to our usual garage.
So out of the village about 8am, passing a GPO van coming the other way, down to St Peters. Who were just starting up when we got there, and agreed that it would be a quick job once they had the right bit. So back with the AA man, to discover a "We tried to deliver" note on the mat.
So I spent the morning catching up around the house, and configuring Courier IMAP on Calliope. Followed by a session practicing being an SMTP server, so as to provide mail for collection. After a few tries, it all seems to be working. Today IMAP, tomorrow Squirrelmail. And maybe Mailman...
At about 2pm, Paul the gardener came round and we went off to March to collect a sofabed that Marcia had bagged off freecycle. We got the sofa down the narrow staircase (it went in, so it must come out...) and into Paul's trailer. And so home. We now have a nice new sofabed in the front room.
Paul then gave me a lift to St Peters to collect the Escort, now repaired (but with a defect list which explains some of the odder noises).
And so home, via the GPO sorting office who couldn't find the bacon. I shall have to take another day off work (oh the hardship) and collect it tomorrow.
