A busy day yesterday...

Up early in the morning, as [livejournal.com profile] the_magician's car had developed a hole in the exhaust on Friday evening, and he had a lot of driving to do. He rang our usual tyres-and-exhaust place in Ely, and they decded they could look at it, even if they might not have the parts. (Apparently it's a model that doesn't exist in the books.)

So we convoyed there (by a slightly circuitous route), left that car there, and went on to Chris' first house-viewing in Littleport. We parked in that rare thing, an all-day parking area, and had a look. It's a 3-bed detached house in the middle of the village, liveable as is but with lots of scope for development. A definite possibility.

And round the corner to the second viewing: a 5-bed Grade 2 listed house. Rather more money and in rather poorer condition, so that's probably out. But it's always fun to see how other people live...

And so back to Ely, pausing only to fill up the Laguna with fuel and observe a late-1980s Mercedes estate for £1275 - nice, but doesn't fit our requirements for a 3rd car.

Gem had finished with Chris' car - a new mid-section of the exhaust - so back home to relax and watch some more of the SEC Championship game (Auburn v Tennessee; Auburn currently up 21-7).

In the evening to the Village Quiz and drinks with friends. A good turnout: 10 teams, so about 40-50 people. We trailed in in the bottom half, having messed up our joker, though getting it right wouldn't have made us competitive anyway. But we won a large bottle of perry in the raffle anyway.

And So To Bed. Today: shopping, the NFL on Sky Sports, and the rest of the SEC game...

Thanks for your assistance with the car and helping with the viewings (and finding them in the first place!)

One thing that some people might have found disturbing was the dead bodies at the "3-bed detached house in the middle of the village, liveable as is but with lots of scope for development. A definite possibility." ...

... though when the person selling the house is a retired butcher preparing for his kids and grandkids to arrive for Christmas dinner the next day (all 19 of them!) having turkeys and large lumps of beef sitting around isn't that surprising ... particularly so when we mention that the 3-bed house is suitable for development because ... it has an attached butcher's shop/catering business. So there's almost the same ground floor area again dedicated to a butcher's shop, two walk in freezers and a large two car garage plus a private drive way and courtyard behind the house)

I'd offer condolences to Marcia but Auburn deserve them more: this year, not one but two teams got screwed by the BCS - Auburn because too many voters looked at the two patsy teams they played rather than how they played in the their tough games and Cal because, well, the BCS is a complete disaster and the Texas coach lobbied voters. Their chance at their first Rose Bowl in 45 years was taken away for no good reason.

Once again, I'll be in Australia for bowl season and am only assured of seeing the "championship" Orange Bowl game, in which I have little interest aside from wanting Oklahoma to win for Mary Kay's sake. Florida is playing Miami in the Peach Bowl so I don't hold up much hope for either seeing the game broadcast in Melbourne or for winnning!
