Thursday: Thanksgiving - afternoon at Marcia's parents, with Marcia cooking.
Friday: US Shopping Ritual: the car park at WalMart was crowded at 04.45. We didn't get the TV we were after, but did get other things. Then to Staples for phones and TomTom: got both. Called in on car dealership: the car we were interested in was "recently sold" (though I think it's still on their website) but they could do us something similar for only twice the price... No sale.
Our ex-daughter-in-law came up from middle TN for the evening with 3 grandchildren, so we stayed at our new house for the first time that night.
Saturday had more shopping, and Marcia's mother made another trip to the hospital. Fortunately she didn't need to stay in this time. And then over to the annual party at Ed Brown's house in Powell, for people Marcia knew at college, which is always fun. We stayed over, being a better idea than driving home.
Sunday: to the car rental agency, to extend the rental car for a few more days.
Monday: tackle the shopping list, which at this point started:
1. Car
2. Another car.
...
Visited Karns Motors, where the Taurus we were interested in was on loan to the owner's wife; please come back tomorrow. And to West Knoxville, to look at a Subaru Legacy: noisy transmission, so no.
Tuesday: back to Karns Motors: looked at Taurus, bought Taurus. A 2004 station wagon, which should be our loadcarrier. Also looked at a 1997 Dodge Intrepid, but the check engine light came on shortly after leaving on the test drive.
Marcia had a long conversation with the animal rescue people, the upshot of which is that we'll be taking Jazzie on long-term fostering.
Wednesday: back to Karns Motors again. The Dodge was fixed, and behaved OK on a test drive, but they had another Taurus being returned from loan by the owner's grandson (I think). Looked at Taurus, bought Taurus. This one is a 2001 SES sedan, but lower mileage than Marcia's wagon. It's not clear which one we'll be taking to Columbus this weekend.
Also visited the pet supermarket in Oak Ridge, to buy a few things for Tuesday when the Menagerie comes home. We also found a cat gym that should be proof against Samson bouncing on it. We'll have to take the wagon to fetch it tomorrow, as it only comes fully assembled.
And so to beer....
