Sunday: out birdwatching with my father and Marcia. We started out by going to the WWT reserve on the Ouse Washes at Welney. The water levels were higher than usual, so there were mainly pochard, with a few tufted ducks and coot along with the usual swans (mostly whoopers). Things like shoveller and waders were noticable by their absence.

After a while, we gave up on that and went over to the RSPB site at Welches Dam – normally a 10-minute drive, but more like 30 this time, as we had to go round via Mepal. Plenty of activity there, including a wren hopping about on a stump and a Greater Spotted Woodpecker on the peanut feeder.

Tuesday: Dropped into Hatfield to refuel this morning. About halfway through, their systems died. It took a few minutes for them to come up again, but nothing anyone there could do would persuade the pump to restart. So I moved to another pump, and /that/ one wouldn’t start either! Grrr… So I gave up, paid for what I had taken, and left. This will screw up the calculations in my spreadsheet, but Such Is Life.

Evening to the pub, where there was a friendly game of bowls in progress against Witcham. Apparently we’re doing quite well in the league.

Wednesday: to the Indian restaurant that we use in Ely, as (a) Marcia was starting a new diet next day and (b) it’s their cheap night. Oink. Thence to the village hall for a committee meeting to discuss the refurb of the kitchen – new countertops and a lick of paint, plus maybe a new sink. Also, we’re giving up on bands for the moment, as attendance seems to have dropped right away.

Thursday: The wind blew, apparently. A dwarf wall fell over on the roof at work, rendering the next office uninhabitable. We now have a refugee problem here…

Friday: resolved the cause of a problem with message log data at work. It’s not my code at fault, nor is it the tape creation process. It appears to be the tape reader not working as documented, so it’s actually a third team that needs to do the work. I expect they’ll just fix the documentation instead of the functionality, though…

Saturday & Sunday: lazed around at home, checking for wind damage. The roofs all appear OK, so we only appear to have a problem with some fencing at the front of the house flexing more than I’d like. Plus a couple of branches have broken, which is fine as they needed pruning anyway. But I now need to get up on the pergola to do that. I wonder if it’ll take my weight…

On Saturday we took Samson and Faldo down to the vets, as Samson needed blood drawn to see if his anti-rabies jab has taken at the second attempt. Faldo came too because apparently he pines when they are separated… We took the opportunity to weigh them: both tip the scales at 35.4 kg these days. Not a bad weight for a couple of Labs.

Poor Faldo :-)

When Tim took Samson to the vet last month, Faldo just kept looking at the door sadly. He finally positioned himself in the dining room where he could see both doors to the house, and didn't move until they got back. It was kind of cute, but sad.
