Marcia's off to the States tomorrow morning, booked back on Sunday/Monday, to hit up bank accounts, look at houses, investigate TV/internet options, etc etc.
Brief summary: we looked briefly at houses in Oak Ridge when we were over at Thanksgiving last year, but it was only in the middle of the year that we decided that things were such (on both sides) that we ought to make the move.
So as we got things in motion, the housing market started to come unravelled over here - not the time to sell, and we had a number of valuations, which varied a lot.
Then we got a knock on the door from our prospective next-door neighbour, who said as she was leaving that they wanted another place in the village for her mother. One thing led to another, and within the week we had a cash offer at our original asking price...
It looks as though we can buy a decent place in or around Oak Ridge and still have enough capital to live on until my pension kicks in.
I don't think we'll be at Smofcon, though it's not entirely out of the question.
