This morning, the doorbell rang - the postman had a "signature required" letter for Marcia from Liverpool. I expected that it was the documents she'd sent to India House in support of her application for British nationality being returned.
Which it was. But the covering letter said that her application, instead of taking 6+ months to process, had been approved and she'll be off to a ceremony some time soon.
At least some bureaucracies can recognise a straightforward case when they see it and can deal with it.

I believe that people born in the USA have to enter and leave the US on a US passport. So she gets to keep that, and probably her right to vote, and no doubt Uncle Sam will try to collect the taxes.
