We Shall See...

Marcia has just placed an order for broadband with NTL Freedom. I wonder if it will work...

Now to sort out networking our various machines. Looks like that'll be our Christmas present to ourselves, then.

ADSL wireless router

99 quid from the local computer shop, may look around dabs.com for something cheaper ...

... should work as a wireless networking hub even without the ADSL set up, so might be worth buying sooner and then connecting to the broadband in 20 days or so when it is activated.

You could have a Hotspot Poof (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000257023967/) to monitor the network. (Wearable flower (http://www.hotspotbloom.com/) looks better and more useful.)

Oh, the HotSpot Bloom is an adorable idea!

Provided you don't use Zone Alarm as firewall it ought to work pretty well. Zone Alarm has a nasty habit of messing up local networking including broadband installation.

But aren't most of your machines DOS / 486 anyway?

hope it comes through. What ever you do dont get a software firewall. Go with the ones come in most routers these days. Hell a NAT will block 90% of intrusions by it'self. Tell mom if you guys get broadband she needs to get on aim and send me a tell.

Though phone call would be nice as well seeing as how I am now with job I thought she might like to hear about it.
