We have eight cats already, which is Quite Enough.

So now we're fostering Puff and Max on behalf of SARG. Just for a month or two while they get adopted permanently.

Really.

Honestly.

...Maybe :-)

For only $1899, I can get a lawn mower with cruise control.

How could I have lived without one?

Not sure what I've covered recently - Marcia's father is doing fine, and is continuing to defy medical opinion.

The cats are doing well, as Princess' thyroid levels are back to normal after the month of treatment. Duchess was looking a bit thin, so we put her in for tests: not only has she held her weight since moving, but her liver functions are normal which wasn't the case a year ago).

Jobhunting continues to get nowhere, so I'll probably have to look for something cheap'n'cheerful locally rather than working as an ADABAS/Natural specialist at about 5x the salary...

The ways of Comcast's PVRs continue to mystify me as I search for a way to make the home theatre, the DVD player and the PVR all work together.

I did find some markers in Walmart for playing Empire Builder, and their only problem seems to be that they're too erasable - it's advisable to keep an eye open for missing bits of trackage during play.

On the other hand, it's raining...

Doesn't look as though we'll be over this year, what with Marcia's new job and all.

Anyone need a room or a membership?

The supplied crayons being less than wonderful, what do people use for drawing lines that's both safe and effective?

I need a "sheep" icon.

I am:
Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs)
A quiet and underrated master of "hard science" fiction who, among other things, foresaw integrated circuits back in the 1940s.

Which science fiction writer are you?

There are many worse results...

and the news is good - she has hyperthyroidism, but everything else is normal - no sign of kidney failure or anything else that might be worrying.

Hyperthyroidism is easily treatable, so she'll be getting a dose of medicine every day from now on, which also means we'll be boarding her when we go away for more than an overnight.

Princess' right eye has been a bit swollen the last day or so, so it was off the the vet with her this afternoon.

As it turns out, she's also dehydrated (though we keep water down at all times), so the vet opted to run a number of tests. The blood test broke the machine (twice!) but the others indicate hyperthyroidism. So she'll be starting a course of pills Real Soon Now.

We should have blood results tomorrow morning, and we'll know if there's anything else going on as well. She'll be 17 in May, and multiple problems are common in cats of her age.
